Following an extensive evaluation, the following criteria were central to selecting a race car for Simraceway Racing Drivers School:
- relevant to modern racing
- approachable limits within a broad power range
- highest levels of safety
- prepares drivers for higher levels of motorsport
Numerous platforms were considered, but ultimately, the global standard of Formula 3 met all the criteria. Thus, Lola Cars, a primary technical partner created the FJR-50 (Formula Jim Russell 50 Years) based on the Lola B06/30 Formula 3 car.
Where some other schools utilize 30 year-old, steel tube-frame designs no longer analogous to modern racing, we have sought out the modern race car in every respect. It is our view, that a driver with limited time and resources must make every session behind the wheel count. Thus, the more acquainted a driver is with the nuances of modern machinery early in their development, the quicker their rate of progression will be.
