Cross the start finish line, stay right, and take turn 1, an arcing left-hander up the hill and under the bridge, nearly flat in 5th gear. Your neck will strain to keep your eyes up the road, and you’ll need to keep your eyes looking as far ahead as possible. The apex of turn 2, a right hander comes just past the brow of the hill from turn 1.
Very quickly the load goes from right to left, reaching the track out point on the rumble strips to driver’s left. Now it’s a fast blast through the left/right sweep of turns 3 and 3a before the road disappears in front of you toward turn 4.
A downhill braking zone means it’s hard on the brakes. A quick hint of understeer becomes a smooth arc to the rumble strips on track out at driver’s left. Now accelerate through the fast right hander that is turn 5 as the track continues to plunge downhill toward the turn 6 “carousel.”
This long left hander brings on g-forces that compress you hard into the cockpit. Getting this corner just right is key to a quick lap.
Now a full burst of throttle and up the gears before arriving at sharp double-apex right hander in the turn 7 complex. From there it is a fast run through the esses before it’s down through the gearbox and hard on the brakes for the turn 9 chicane.
Turn 10 is a fast right hander entering the stadium section before the slow and steady hairpin of turn 11. The finish line is near, but turn 12, a fast left hand kink needs to be threaded before you complete 2.5 miles and 160 feet of elevation gain at Infineon Raceway.
